Hookas on Campus

Today Residence Life sent out an email regarding the use of Hookas on campus because this has become a big issue. Many students this year have been using the Hookas outside in the mini-quad. Just for clarification, according to the email, the policy is that you can use the Hookas in the designated smoking areas, but they cannot be stored in your room.

In my opinion, the storage of the Hookas is silly. Looks like you better keep the Hooka in your car.

That policy is completely absurd. How is a hookah any different than a tobacco pipe, other than the use of water? True, a hookah could be considered "pariphenalia (sp)," but couldn't any other smoking device?

Aren't they very large? You can tuck a tobacco pipe in a drawer but a hookah? Not so much...

@tracy
But why tell people what they can or cannot keep in their rooms? They can be big, but on average are the size of a lamp. Even if larger, I think people should be able to keep their belongings in their room.
